Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency promotes positive change in Out-Wayne County by addressing housing needs, financial stability, the lack of educational opportunities, and declining neighborhoods. Wayne Metro offers more than 40 programs designed to increase the self-sufficiency of low-income individuals, families, and youth. As the Community Action Agency serving the 42 communities surrounding Detroit, Wayne Metro receives more than 15,000 calls requesting assistance each year. Programs encompass four focus areas: Community Support Services, Homeless Programs, Youth and Family Services, and Community Development. Wayne Metro provides access to resources for basic needs as well as crisis support through Wayne Metro programming that focuses on affordable housing creation; housing assistance; homelessness prevention; utility payment assistance; rent/mortgage payment assistance; access to health care and medical prescriptions; emergency food assistance; employment and training; and homeownership counseling. Families can enroll in Head Start early childhood education, before and after-school academic enrichments programs, and Even Start Family Literacy. The agency’s Wyandotte office serves as agency headquarters with 15 additional locations throughout Out-Wayne County.
